Teletherapy

When You're Not Able to Come to Our Boston, MA Office

Are you looking for "therapists near me" or "psychologist near me"?

Teletherapy is a convenient way to access our psychotherapy services without having to physically come into our Boston, MA office. We offer secure confidential video-based teletherapy options for clients who are located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Virginia. Video platform options include Doxy.me, Google meets, and Zoom. Contact us to discuss your options.

Many people find video-based therapy to be an effective method of treatment. Some communication cues may be lost in teletherapy (for example, body language, since only the face is typically visible). With careful check-ins, therapist and client are typically able to communicate in a safe and effective way via teletherapy.

While biofeedback is somewhat limited for remote sessions, there is at-home equipment you can obtain, and we will walk you through using that equipment as part of your session.

When you choose a teletherapy appointment option, please make sure that you have access to reliable internet connection and a device that has a webcam and a microphone. Chrome and Firefox browsers tend to be more reliable for teletherapy than Safari or Explorer.

Ideally, you would have access to a private space where you won’t be overheard or interrupted. We understand that sometimes young children may come in or require your attention. If this happens a lot, we may discuss ways to minimize the interruptions so that you can focus on self-care. If it is difficult to find a private space at home, some people have chosen to do teletherapy from their car (but not while driving!).

If you are concerned about someone overhearing you, a white noise machine or app, along with headphones/earbuds can be very helpful in maximizing privacy. Please do not be concerned with whether your space is messy or cluttered – we certainly are not!

Allow yourself to be comfortable for your therapy session. It is easier to be comfortable if you do not have to hold your device in your hand. A desktop or laptop computer or a tablet may be more comfortable to use than a smartphone. Do not hesitate to wear comfortable clothing and use a pillow or blanket.

If we have trouble with the internet connection during our session, or if connection drops, please re-connect as soon as you can. Your therapist will reach out to you by phone if there is difficulty in re-connecting.
